UT SOUTHWESTERN ADMINISTRATOR COMPENSATION AND RAISES

Linked below is UT Southwestern's annual Administrative Accountability Report, which is required to be sent to the state and also placed in university libraries, although, statewide, compliance with that last bit has been spotty, at best.  Perhaps the most interesting thing in this report is on the very first page.  Former UTSW president Kern Wildenthal is still on the state payroll to the tune of almost a cool million.   President Daniel Podolsky clears the million-dollar hurdle at $1,212,000.

UT SOUTHWESTERN V. DR. LARRY M. GENTILELLO This case has been going on for a while now. The excerpt below is from a 12/18/09 decision of the Supreme Court of Texas: Dr. Larry M. Gentilello sued the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas under the Texas Whistleblower Act, alleging that he was demoted and stripped of two faculty chair positions for reporting violations of Medicare and Medicaid regulations to his supervisor. The Medical Center filed a plea to the jurisdiction, asserting that Gentilello’s claims were barred by governmental immunity because he failed to allege a violation under the Whistleblower Act. RUMORMILL RE TFA CONFERENCE I hear but have not confirmed that TFA will hold its annual conference in Galveston. Now that's one I'm going to attend if the rumor is true! PROBLEM: TFA does no traditional academic "stuff" like calls for papers, academic presentations that relate to professional development & such, so institutions are loathe to pay faculty members' way to our conferences, essentially union meetings. (They are historically pitifully attended, so much so that I worry about what guest speakers must be thinking.) Also, people not expecting trouble often don't see any reason to join.
