There are those who believe that by my discussing the real issues I see at TFA, I am harming the organization somehow, scaring off members. On the other hand, I believe that the problems themselves turn off many more people and scare off many more members, current and potential, than any honest discussion ever could. Accordingly, I believe my silence would do more damage to TFA in the long run. It is with that spirit in mind that I share yet another trip I ran across in my document inspection at TFA on January 7, 2010. Again, I draw no conclusions in the write-up below, which was part of my report to TFA and TSTA.
Document no. R-0023: [Former TFA Executive Director Tom Johnson] Claims $96.60 for 6/25/08 “TAMUK OC” [Texas A&M Kingsville organizing committee] dinner. No listing of participants as required by voucher. I could not find the receipt for the dinner, only a credit card statement for, as I recall but did not write down, the “King’s Inn.” I found no hotel receipt. Mileage to Kingsville from Austin is 232 miles. He claimed 553 miles on 6/25/08, the night of the dinner and 253 miles on 6/26/08 for his return. The return leg is in line with the distance between Kingsville and Austin, but not the first 553 miles on the first day of the trip. I saw a receipt for the Snake River Grill, Lake Charles, LA, for 6/26/2008.
