The Galveston County Daily News has slipped back into its comfort zone--simply repeating what UTMB says. UTMB's Public Affairs Office, via an article titled "What's up with UTMB Joining Texas Medical Center?" is spreading balm on the waters just as surely as the Exxon-Valdez spread an oil slick. The "Victory Lakes campus" has been swallowed whole, and it's as if the issue of where the new hospital tower will be built has just disappeared with the ease of a magician's coin. It's liable to reappear with the newly coined term "Victory Lakes campus," in League City.

Q: Is this the first step toward the medical branch leaving the island?
A: Absolutely not. The medical branch is committed to its home community. What’s more, the Galveston campus represents a multibillion-dollar asset to the state of Texas. The UT System Board of Regents recently reviewed our long-range plans for the Galveston and Victory Lakes campuses and already had given us approval to proceed with planning for a facility that will replace older operating rooms and intensive care units in John Sealy Hospital.
